Set of 6 1970s Italian Cesca Style Chrome & Vienna Straw Chairs
A timeless set of six cantilever dining chairs produced in Italy during the 1970s, designed in the iconic style of Marcel Breuer's classic "Cesca" chair popularized by Dino Gavina and Knoll. Combining continuous tubular chrome steel with natural beechwood frames and woven cane, these chairs remain an absolute cornerstone of modern mid-century architecture and interior design.
The cantilevered frame, engineered from mirror-polished tubular chrome steel, gives the chairs their signature flex and effortless floating silhouette. The solid wooden outer frames enclose delicate yet resilient hand-woven Vienna straw (cane) mesh for both backrests and seat bases, creating a harmonious balance between sleek industrial metalwork and warm organic textures.
Meticulously inspected and refined, four of the seat bases in this set have been expertly re-caned with fresh natural Vienna straw to guarantee long-lasting durability. Sturdy, remarkably comfortable, and fully restored to pristine functional condition, this complete set of six dining chairs is ready for immediate everyday entertaining. Condition & Technical SpecsCondition: Excellent vintage condition. All six chairs are structurally rigid, balanced, and ready for daily use. Four seats feature brand-new, professionally re-woven Vienna straw, while the remaining woven panels are tight and intact. The tubular chrome frames show minimal signs of age and maintain a bright polish.
How should Vienna straw, beechwood, and chrome be cleaned and maintained?
Vienna Straw: Keep natural cane elastic by lightly moistening the underside of the woven panels with a damp cloth every few months. Avoid placing chairs directly next to intense heat sources or in prolonged direct sunlight. Clean surface dust using a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment.
Chrome Tubular Frame: Dust regularly with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. To remove smudges or fingerprints, use a glass cleaner or light non-abrasive metal polish applied to a soft cloth.
Wooden Frames: Wipe clean with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water and dry immediately. A light coat of neutral furniture wax applied annually will protect the natural beechwood finish.
