De Pas, D'Urbino, Lomazzi

In 1967 they created a cult object: the Blow inflatable armchair for Zanotta.

In 1970 they designed the Joe armchair in the shape of a giant glove, in homage to the American baseball champion Joe Di Maggio.

They are Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi, a creative trio that has revolutionized the history of design. Their works have entered the elite of design and art, like the MoMA in New York.

THE START
The three young men in their thirties, born in Milan,
joined forces in 1966 to form their own studio in Turin. Their first interest was in inflatable structures.
Soon later they studied and developed a series of furniture
pieces based on the techniques of old crafts,
in particular those of the rural civilization. The techniques in question are reusable
and transferable to industrial scale production,
without diminishing the techniques and ways of expression adopted
for the manufacture of wonderful unique pieces.

WAY OF WORK

What the three designers want to transmit to us is an operation of research, of recovery of ways and forms to access a
simplicity that is increasingly in demand in the way of living
the home of the public, even the youngests. Function and simplicity are their keywords.

THE THOUGHT

They say: "It is our belief that the furnishings of a home should be used
in a non-mythical way. In other words, we want to replace
the important, expensive object that wants to be admired with a
simpler, inexpensive, casual one. So we try to design furniture that can be used, reused,
consumable and adjustable. Real objects of use, like a pair of shoes.
