As referenced in Domus magazine, No. 358 (September 1959, p. 36), this design highlights Bonacina’s mastery of bent-malacca frames and Indian cane structural joinery. The defining structural detail, clearly visible in the archival publication, is the sweeping, continuous bent-malacca joint connecting the legs to the upper frame, offering both architectural lightness and exceptional stability.
Constructed with heavy hand-bent malacca wood frames and open woven rattan lattice headboards and footboards, these versatile daybeds function as twin single beds, standalone lounge daybeds, or joined together into an expansive sectional sofa arrangement.
Conservative Restoration: Meticulously restored using period-correct natural rattan cane to replace missing or worn woven parts while maintaining historical authenticity. Frames and malacca leg joints are completely rigid, sturdy, and stable. Professionally cleaned, deep-conditioned, and sanitized. The warm, natural amber patina developed over decades is preserved and protected.
How do I clean natural rattan and malacca frames?
Dust regularly using a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust from the woven lattice. For deeper cleaning, wipe down with a well-wrung cloth dampened with mild soapy water, then wipe completely dry.
